If you live in Bayside Melbourne and are finding the pace of modern life a little on the fast side, slow everything down a notch with a yin yoga session at The Karma Studio.
What is yin yoga?
We’ve all probably heard of yin and yang and its philosophies of negative and positive, dualism, balance and complementary forces. Well, in the yoga world, many of the types of sessions offered at yoga studios can be considered as yang. They’re vigorous and fast-paced. Yin yoga, on the other hand, is a slow-paced style of yoga.
A yin yoga session at The Karma Studio in the Bayside Melbourne suburb of Sandringham will focus on your muscles and the connective tissues, such as your ligaments, joints and bones. It’s also designed to stimulate the channels or meridians throughout your body that are so important in ancient medicines. You’ll hold poses for longer, helping you stretch your muscles and connective tissues and allowing you to focus on your breath and your mind.
Yin yoga, like many other yoga styles, is heavily based on traditional Chinese medicines and principles. The poses are similar to poses used in other yoga styles, but as well as being held for longer there can be subtle differences.
The physical benefits of yin yoga include an improvement in circulation and flexibility. Due to its meditative approach, yin yoga also provides many benefits to your mind and can help deliver inner peace and relaxation.
Convinced? The Karma Studio runs yin yoga sessions twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sessions are more personalised than you may be used to. Generally the group size is a maximum of eight, but with COVID-19 we’re limiting this to four people face-to-face. Sessions are also available on Zoom, so if you’d prefer to try yin yoga from the comfort of your home, you can do that too!
Not sure if yin yoga is for you? That’s OK as we have a great online introductory offer that’s perfect for beginners or those that perhaps haven’t done yoga for a while. Our online introduction package includes 3 sessions for $60. That’s only $20 a session and is great value.
Restrictions have eased
COVID-19 restrictions have eased, but we’re not quite back to normal at The Karma Studio in the Bayside Melbourne suburb of Sandringham.
We are able to hold face-to-face sessions again, like our yin yoga, as well as massage, needle therapy, healing and more, but we are limiting numbers to ensure the safety of all The Karma Studio practitioners and clients. In addition, extra precautions are being taken, such as thorough cleaning of equipment, the wearing of masks, increased ventilation and other hygiene practices. If you feel more comfortable at home, however, we are still holding many sessions online, including our yin yoga.
All sessions, both online and face-to-face, can be booked on our website. Give yin yoga a try this week!
