Carolyn yoga teacher at The Karma Studio

Carolyn has been teaching yoga for more than 10 years. She began practising yoga to be more fit and flexible, but found that not only did this happen but it also helped decrease her back pain from sitting at a computer all day and improved how well she slept. Yoga has been an important part of her life ever since.

Carolyn teaches Yin Yoga, which is about surrendering. Yin is a style of yoga that targets the joints and connective tissues in the body. Relaxing the muscles allows a deeper release. Most Yin poses work from the waist down, mainly on the floor in a seated or lying position, and are held for up to 5 minutes each. Although challenging at times, it is suitable for most people. Like all yoga it helps to reduce stress, open energy channels in the body and increase flexibility and mobility.

Carolyn also teaches Hatha Yoga, a classical form of yoga that focuses on holding postures and maintaining breathing patterns that allow students to calm their minds.

Qualifications include:

  • Advanced Diploma Hatha Yoga
  • Diploma Yin Yoga

A pivotal experience was waiting for Jenn the day she walked into her first yoga class at age 22. “I remember thinking after the class, ‘I want to feel like this all the time. Not just every day but all the time. It was the thing that changed my life’,’’ says the New Zealand-born adventurer who discovered her healing journey on the Sunshine Coast in Australia.

Avoiding distractions, she plunged not only into a regular yoga practice with a bush-dwelling teacher but threw herself into a 10-day vipassana meditation course, not realising it was 10 days of utter silence. She toughed it out to completion, and set the tone for the rest of her life.

Jenn took on one challenge after another, collecting diplomas and certificates along the path that brought her to Melbourne in the 1980s. Drawn to natural healing, she studied naturopathy with “a wonderful Dutch couple’’ in Queensland and learned to use their acres of herbs and plants as medicine. Besides mixing ointments for healing, her hands were drawn to massaging bodies – so she studied the art of touch and earned a few diplomas.

She has been part of a metaphysical congregation led by Rev. Mario Schoenmaker, with whom she did healings while studying psychodrama with Max Clayton, has studied Chinese massage with Professor Wong, turned her hand to Japanese needling with teacher Paul Movsessian, and has devoted long years to yoga therapy, iRest Yoga Nidra and so much more.

“I’ve had outstanding life-changing teachers,’’ she says with characteristic gratitude. She has been a good teacher, too, spending four years teaching at the East West College of natural therapies in Caulfield and running courses at her Karma Studio in Sandringham. These courses include iRest Yoga Nidra in which she holds an iRest Meditation international certificate.

Jenn can best be described as an intuitive healer who wears many hats and who soars highest when she can wear them all at once … drawing on her diplomas in Swedish, Remedial, Polarity and Chinese Massage, iRest Yoga Nidra, Japanese Needle Therapy, nearly 20 years of experience in yoga therapy, 6 years of metaphysics practice, 5 years of Communication, and also psychodrama, healing services and more.

“After more than four decades of loving attention on this path, I intuitively know what someone needs,’’ Jenn says. “The healing sessions work wonders because someone has given me permission to use everything I’ve learned.’’

Jenn, director of the Karma Studio in Bayside Melbourne, also runs regular, sought-after retreats and special events that bring the community together and uplift individual lives.

Qualifications Include:

  • Diploma Remedial Massage
  • Diploma Chinese massage
  • Certificate of Japanese Needle Therapy
  • Certificate of Yoga Therapy
  • Certified iRest Meditation Teacher
  • TAA40104 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment
Yolande Reflexology - Practitioner

Yolande believes Reflexology helps with the ‘Activation’ of Healing mind, body, emotions and spirit through the Ingham method of gently massaging the reflex points on specifically the feet to create homeostasis,  a sense of being in your body and feeling grounded.

The experience of having Reflexology is deeply relaxing, that can take you to that special space where you can listen to your own inner wisdom through mindfulness, even going into the dream state. If you can tap into this space, you will know what is needed for your own healing. She believes that connecting into your own ‘Inner world’ is an important place to ‘Knowing Thy Self’.

The treatment will usually take One and a half hours of time especially for YOU.. (different for seniors and children).

On completion, YOU will go away with a greater sense of balance, knowledge of self and peacefulness.
